We waited: the new school on the Helipad will open its doors to 400 children this year

In a densely populated Western residential area of Rostov-on-Don, the construction of a long-awaited social facility is nearing completion. The new school, which is being built in the Helicopter Field microdistrict, will open its doors to students in the coming academic year. The Governor of the Rostov region, Yuri Slyusar, who personally inspected the construction site last weekend, spoke about the progress of construction and the fateful decision for thousands of families.
The problem of overcrowding in schools in this area has been overdue for a long time and has reached a critical point. The only operating educational institution, originally designed for 700 places, has been operating with a double workload for several years, accepting almost 2,000 children. The situation with the shortage of available desks has been worsening here for more than five years, and local residents simply do not have the strength to wait for large-scale construction until 2030.
That is why the regional authorities and the developer have found an unconventional way out. According to Yuri Slyusar, in parallel with the construction of a capital building for 1,120 places (which will appear in the long term), it was decided to promptly erect a modern modular building for 400 students. "Children can't wait," the head of the region emphasized, "and we found a good, quick solution with the developer."
The new building will occupy an area of 65 acres. Its key feature is its modular design, made of collapsible elements. This approach has made it possible to achieve a high degree of facility readiness in record time, which is especially valuable for a growing neighborhood.
However, speed does not come at the expense of quality. The designers focused on safety and wear resistance: only non-flammable materials and vandal-proof coatings were used in construction and decoration. This guarantees not only the protection of children's health, but also a long life for the building without losing its aesthetic appearance, even with intensive operation.
Social responsibility and budget support
Separately, Yuri Slyusar noted the constructive position of the investor. In the conditions of the modern market, not all developers are ready to take on social obligations, but the developer of the Helicopter Field has shown an example of responsible business.
"I am glad that there are companies in the Don capital that are ready not only to earn money, but also to invest in infrastructure," the governor said. "We will continue to help such partners in the future."
The financial burden of equipping the school, connecting all necessary communications (water supply, electricity, sewerage) and the final landscaping of the surrounding area was assumed by the city budget. All the work is at the finish line.
It should be recalled that the residential area "Helipad" was built on the site of the former DOSAAF airfield. Today, several large residential complexes are concentrated here, and the population density continues to increase rapidly, making the issue of education one of the most acute.
The builders have already received strict instructions to complete all the main work by August 1, so that teachers and the management of the institution have time to prepare classes. The ceremonial line-up and the first bell for 400 schoolchildren will sound here on September 1, 2026. This day will be an important milestone in the development of the entire Western microdistrict, finally removing many years of stress from the shoulders of parents and students.
